MARY ETHEL KRISTJANSON Peacefully with her loving family by her side, Ethel passed away at Gimli Community Health Centre on September 14, 2010. Left to mourn her passing is her daughter Roberta and husband Bob Horner, two grandchildren Doug (Sharon) Horner of Slave Lake, Alberta, Tannis (Dennis) Nychuk of Thompson, Manitoba, five great-grandchildren Dayna (Cody Sinclair), Deanna (Blair Smith), Tanner Horner of Slave Lake, Kristin (Chris) Beach of St. Andrews, Manitoba, Kody Janzen (Kelsey Hinds) of Winnipeg and one great-great grandchild Van Beach of St. Andrews, Manitoba, a sister Eleanor Elkholm of Thunder Bay, Ontario, sister-in-law Helen Eiriksson of Brandon, Manitoba. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. Ethel was predeceased by her husband Thorarinn (Toti) in 1993, two brothers, one sister, seven brothers-in-law and six sisters-in-law. Ethel was born in Kamsack, Saskatchewan on October 14, 1913. She moved to Thunder Bay (Port Arthur) in 1932 and lived there until she married Toti in 1938. They ranched and commercial fished on Red Deer Point, Manitoba, until retiring to Winnipegosis in 1979. Ethel moved to the Waterfront Centre in Gimli in 2003. There she spent seven enjoyable years and made many new friends. She looked forward to their afternoon coffee breaks' and Monday night bingo whist. Ethel then moved to Betel Care Home in September of 2009 where she made new friends and was cared for by a wonderful, caring staff. As per her wishes cremation has taken place and a celebration of Ethel's life will be held on Friday (today), September 17 at 2:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel in Gimli. Interment of ashes will take place at a later date in Winnipegosis. Should friends so desire, donations may be made to Betel Care Home or a charity of your choice.
